Aquatic weeds often cause serious problems in ponds, interfering with fishing, boating, swimming, and irrigation. Extremely dense growths of filamentous algae and submerged weeds may cause serious problems to fish as a result of night time oxygen depletion.

Generally, weeds that are rooted at the bottom or begin forming at the bottom are usually a problem only in ponds that are shallow or have shallow areas (water less than 24 inches deep). Sunlight can penetrate to the pond bottom where rooted aquatic weeds and filamentous algae may become established. Once established, many weeds have the ability to spread to deeper water.

Methods to clear the weeds vary from manually clearing them away to the use of herbicides and other chemicals. Manual removal is very labour intensive and not always practical and the use of chemicals, algaecides, herbicides etc, if not used in precise doses or under strict supervision by experts can cause an imbalance of the natural nutrients in the pond that may have a negative effect on fish, plants and other species.

As mentioned earlier, sunlight, although desired by most people, is algae's prominent food source. Light is made up from a number of colours, known as a spectrum, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet these can be seen in a rainbow. The parts of daylight that supply the algae with food are visible as the Blue, Violet and Indigo.

DyoFix Pond Blue is a propriety blend of dyes that once mixed into the pond acts as a barrier by reflecting these colours away from the surface and at the same time, allows the other parts of the light into the pond.

DyoFix Pond Blue is a safe, non-toxic product and with an application rate of 100 grams per Million Litres of water is economical to use. The product is supplied in 250 gram, water soluble sachets that are easily thrown into the middle of the pond or lake. An example, a pond measuring 50 metres by 50 metres at a depth of 2 metres, contains 5 Million litres of water and requires 500 grams (2 sachets) of DyoFix Pond Blue.

The initial dose should last 2 to 3 months, depending on the amount of sunlight and rainfall, and the pond can be "topped up" with lower weights as required. A minimum pond depth of 2 feet is required for the best results.

DyoFix Pond Blue is available in powder sachets or liquid form, one sachet will treat 2,500,000 litres. A liquid version is now available that is suitable for smaller ponds.
